April Review

Happy May Day, May 1st! With the start of the new month, I'd like to recap the month that we just finished, and I'll do so for Bradley International Airport (BDL) and Burlington International Airport (BTV).

April 2020 Climate Data for Bradley International Airport (xmACIS)
The above image shows data for each da of the month at BDL, and we can see that the average temp. for the month was 46.1 degrees F, while normal (dating back to 1949) is 49.4 degrees F, so it was certainly a cold month, as the average temperature was 3.3 degrees below normal. On April 23, we had a low temperature of 26 degrees F, which set a record low temperature for that day. We saw some form of precipitation on all but 10 days of the month, giving us 5.39 inches of precipitation, where normal is 3.72 inches. And on April 18, we saw 2.4 inches of snow, which set a record day. All in all, April can be characterized as cold and wet at BDL.

April 2020 Climate Data for Burlington International Airport (xmACIS)
Burlington was colder than normal but drier than normal this April. With data dating back to 1940, the normal average temp for Burlington during April is 44.8 degrees F, and this month's average temperature for the month was 43.4 degrees F, making for a -1.4 degree departure from normal. Interestingly, the coldest it got this month was 26 degrees F, which was the same coldest temperature that BDL had this month. An the 29th, we hit 67 degrees F, for the warmest temperature of the month. Burlington only say 0.1 inches of snow this month, and normal is 4.6 inches. Likewise, only 1.84 inches of total precipitation fell during April 2020, when normal is 2.82 inches.

That's a look at April, but I'll take a look at how we're doing this year to date tomorrow!
